It's important to get kids snow gear that is insulated, water proof and warm. If your kids ski gear isn't any of these things, I advise you to please go out and buy new gear. It is worth it for your kids safety and health.
Be sure that your children have all of the different gear they need. Many parents don't realize just how much stuff they need to buy their kids for skiing. This includes, at the basics, a hat, goggles, gloves, ski pants, jacket, thermals. That is the absolute bare minimum though.
Make sure it fits correctly. Ski gear which is too small can be constricting for kids. It is nearly impossible to ski properly if your arms are stuck in place. Also, if they are too big, they may allow cold water and snow to get in, giving you the potential of hypothermia as well as frostbite.
Don't buy cheap. It is just not worth it! You want your kids snow gear to last a long time (well...until they grow out of them, that is). You do not want to buy gear which will rip and tear easily, or which will not stay as warm as it should be.
Get cool kids ski gear for cheap online and out of season. Don't make your kids go around in gear which isn't in style. That's just mean! You can easily get cools kids ski gear on sale at a variety of places (remember, on clearance, or on sale does not equal cheap). Try eBay, or other online stores first. Or try the timing trick. You can buy the gear in the off season (or right at the end of a season) for dirt cheap prices.
